TV Interview Training & Coaching

Prepare clear answers and practise how you deliver them when the camera is on.

A television interview brings your message, voice and visible response together. Hawkeye Media’s TV interview training gives you time to rehearse that combination, with relevant questions, recorded practice and constructive feedback.

Whether you are preparing for your first appearance or refining an experienced spokesperson’s approach, we build the coaching around the subject, audience and interview format you expect.

Discuss your TV interview preparation

Start with what the audience needs to understand

We discuss the interview brief and the point you need to explain. That includes the likely questions, your role and any information boundaries. You work on clear messages and examples that can fit the conversation without making an answer sound memorised.

A technical expert might practise a shorter explanation; a leader might work through questions about a decision; a charity representative might explore how to make a story relevant. The exercise reflects your situation.

Bring content and on-camera delivery together

Training can help you work on:

  • Giving an answer a clear opening and a useful main point.
  • Making specialist detail understandable to viewers.
  • Using voice, pace and pauses to support the explanation.
  • Considering posture, expression and eye contact.
  • Responding to interruptions and challenging follow-up questions.
  • Adapting to studio, location or video-link interviews.

The aim is to make your communication natural and considered. We help you recognise the habits that support the message and the ones that may distract from it.

See what the camera sees

Recorded mock interviews are central to the coaching. They give you and the trainer something specific to review: where an answer became clear, where it ran too long and how your delivery affected its meaning.

We then put the feedback into further practice. This allows you to try a different explanation or delivery choice and compare the result. The setting is supportive, with the questions and challenge pitched to your objectives and experience.

Prepare for the format you will face

A studio conversation, a location interview and a remote appearance can each place different demands on the spokesperson. We discuss those details in advance and choose relevant exercises and practical arrangements.

For a video-link appearance, we can consider framing, sound, background and the rhythm of speaking through a screen. Our Zoom media training provides more detail on this preparation. For studio and mobile equipment options, explore our facilities.

Learn from broadcast experience

Hawkeye Media is run by journalists and PR professionals with experience across television, radio and newspapers. Helen Glanville’s BBC career included work on Watchdog and Panorama, bringing insight into how interviews are prepared and how a story develops.

Our team profiles and client examples explain more about that experience. If you are preparing for a serious incident or particularly demanding issue, discuss our crisis media training.
