Novartis

Crisis media training and realistic broadcast material for executive preparation.

This case study describes Hawkeye Media's contribution to crisis preparation for Novartis executives, working alongside OCTO. The brief combined media training with films and simulated news coverage designed to support a wider crisis training programme.

The brief

The programme needed material for the Novartis Executive Committee and other key executives. Requirements included simulated news bulletins, crisis media awareness videos and a documentary, alongside training involving the Emergency Management and Executive Committee.

The communication challenge was to bring the media dimension into executive rehearsal. Simulated coverage could give the exercise a broadcast perspective, while the training addressed how senior people communicated in a crisis setting.

How Hawkeye Media helped

Hawkeye Media provided crisis media training and produced the broadcast and video material specified in the brief. The work formed part of OCTO's crisis management training for Novartis Emergency Management in Basel.

The sessions and filmed material addressed connected parts of the exercise. Senior managers could work on their media response while the simulated bulletins and other films brought a broadcast perspective into the wider training programme.

Client feedback

The crisis media training sessions with senior management were engaging, relevant and memorable.

Helen Shannon, OCTO

OCTO's feedback describes perceptive, diplomatically delivered advice and material supplied to brief, on time and on budget. It also explains that the films played an important role in the Emergency Management Team's training, connecting the production work with the purpose of the exercise.

Planning similar preparation

For an organisation planning similar preparation, consider whether interview practice alone will meet the brief or whether the exercise also needs simulated media coverage. The scenario, executive responsibilities and purpose of each piece of material should guide that discussion.
